That said, the only howler I found is when he blandly writes of Edmund Wilson and F. Scott Fitzgerald that they "overlapped at Princeton."

Surely this is just a subtle way of saying that they were lovers.

It would only be better if Barber had also claimed that Wilson was Fitzgerald's fagmaster, a term he uses quite a bit in the early part of the book that I'm sure gave great if juvenile amusement to all American readers.
