Lisa Hunter

I read once that when MoMA was founded, the idea was for it to be about recent, contemporary art, and anything older than 50 years (or 75, I forget) was supposed to go to the Met. For years, the Met staff didn't collect much new work, because they believed (falsely) that MoMA would pass along its 20th century treasures.

In this instance, perhaps the Met believes it will be easier to get donations of contemporary art from collector/donors.
