Easy: SFMOMA admitted that its press release was wrong. I had relied on the release for my info, which seems/seemed reasonable.

I understand that, but the new description of the show's contents ("works from SFMOMA's collection [fractional and promised gifts from the Logans] as well as works that are strictly in the Logan Collection [some are on loan from the Denver Art Museum]" seems to include work that will still belong to the private collection when all is said and done. So it's a mixed bag, like the NGA's show, half of the contents of which were a gift to the museum. Again, I don't have a problem with that, myself, but I don't see how one is ok while the other isn't.

Then again, it's also possible that the actual situation with SFMOMA's exhibition remains unclear, and that I should just leave them out of it until I have a better idea of what exactly they'll be showing. I think I'll stick with that.

NGA: Fifty percent. I'm guessing SFMOMA will come in under 10% Logan's non-gifted works. But that's a total guess.

Let's assume your guess is basically accurate: that means we're talking differences of degree here, and not kind, no? Which makes what seems to me to make absolute ethical statements regarding these sorts of shows not the way to go.
