other criteria

The first paragraph of Charlie Finch's interview with Leo Steinberg:

We were so depressed by Philip-Lorca diCorcia’s decadent dungeon encompassed snaps of strippers, hung upside down on poles like Baselitzes (one gallery-goer commented, "I like the Asian girl best, but Pace MacGill insisted that Philip airbrush out her nipple rings") that we walked over to 11th Avenue for air.

He just can't resist.

UPDATE: Having now had a chance to actually look at the whole thing, I have to say that while "interview" might not be totally inapplicable, it implies a good deal more substance than is actually there.  A feuilleton, I suppose.  And Finch probably thinks French sounds dirty, so even better.

2ND UPDATE: Dan writes that Finch's parathetical has been edited from the article.  So it has, and me without a screenshot.  I hope some others saw it as well.

Comments

The Asian girl/nipple ring comment appears to have been edited out now.

When Todd first posted on Charlie's 'predilections,' it was a good, funny joke. With each iteration it grows less and less funny. Or maybe more... I'm not really sure.

Damn! And me without a screenshot. It seems to have gone down before the article got cached by Google, too. They are a clever bunch. I do hope others saw it, though.

I had assumed it was an intentional provocation, being so blatant and unnecessary. But perhaps not everyone liked the joke? I don't know.

I think the pictures are really beautiful, people have so many pre-conceptions of the sex industry- it's nice to see Dicorcio has challenged this and created an alternative perspective.
